El Alto International Airport is one of the oldest and most important in Bolivia. Its history begins in 1913, when a piece of land was opened in âNuevo PotosĂâ. In 1965 it was officially inaugurated with the name âJohn F. Kennedy Airportâ, although it was never officially used. Since 1999, it has been known as El Alto International Airport, and in 2008 it was modernized to improve the boarding and baggage claim areas.
